In a glorious centerstage, facing hundreds of people,you stand. But all you see is the dominant white light falling on you. Your heart thumps so loud that you fear it will burst. There’s a unique inexplicable anxiety along with exhaustion and ecstasy constantly playing on your mind. The spotlight falls on you, the cameras click, the crowd you slowly acknowledge your victory ,as you gradually realize the truth that you have won the finals of a competition conducted by Asia's largest college festival, Mood Indigo and that, officially, makes you one in a million!

Competitions, often an integral part of college festivals are unarguably the heart of Mood Indigo. With immense talent pouring in from all over the country to prove their worth, competitions are something every enthusiastic college student looks forward to. Over the years, Mood Indigo has had popular names of the industry visiting the festival not only as judges and reputed guests but also as participants! As we run up to the unveiling of this year’s competitions, here’s an account of some of their experiences and Mood Indigo’s tryst with them!

Ayushmann Khurrana:
A winner of a reality show, a VJ, a singer, an actor, Ayushmann Khurana is a man of a multitude of talent! We got a glimpse of his variety at Mood Indigo since he is one of the very few people who have not only participated but also judged the competitions at Mood Indigo! His unfathomable enthusiasm and desire to return to Mood Indigo to entertain one and all is what makes his bond with the festival so special!

Shahid Kapoor:
Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor who has acted in several blockbusters like Jab We Met and Haider is known as a complete performer! A special skill he is adored for, other than his acting skills, are his tremendous dancing abilities. Shahid Kapoor judged the solo dance competition at Mood Indigo-2009 and gave his valuable inputs to enthusiastic college students to make it big in the industry. It was an honour to have an artist as proficient as himself, to judge the participants.

Saroj Khan:
Ace Bollywood choreographer who has been a constant favourite of actresses like Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai, visited Mood Indigo in 2008. Her mere presence lifted the participants’ spirits and being mentored and judged by her served as the icing on the cake. Being mighty pleased by the performances that year, Saroj Khan enjoyed picking out the nuances to help the participants improve and giving them advice for bringing their Bollywood dreams to reality.

Anurag Kashyap:
The brain behind the trendsetters of Indian cinema like, Dev D, Gangs of Wasseypur and Bombay Talkies, was kind enough to grace Mood Indigo with his presence during the 2008 edition. There could hardly be anything more enlightening for a wannabe filmmaker, than an interactive session with a director of his heights.

Roshan Taneja:
Popular as a guide to various legendary celebrities, he has mentored multiple generations of film stars that include the likes of Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Juhi Chawla, Naseeruddin Shah, Ranbir Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi. Needless to say, the participants of Third Bell (2014), the one-act play competition of Mood Indigo, were more than excited to perform in front of the maker of so many superstars. Truly a moment we will cherish for our entire lives.

Lesle Lewis:
The famous singer and composer, who won the hearts of millions of music lovers across the world with his fusion of Eastern and Western music was at the 2012 edition of Mood Indigo. The participants and audience were exhilarated by having him judge the competition. He gave valuable suggestions to the participants for improvement and advised them on how to have a successful music career that spans not only a country but the entire world.

Paradigm Shift:
Yes, the progressive rock band from Mumbai, Paradigm Shift, which went viral with its amazing amalgamation of Indian classical with contemporary progressive rock music was at Mood Indigo too. They were the judges for Mantra, the Hindi rock band competition. Not only did they provide their opinion on the music but also shared some of the concepts of stage presence and on-stage chemistry development which not many artists would share.

Nagesh Kukunoor:
Moving to the participant’s side from the judge’s, National award winning Bollywood director Nagesh Kukunoor who directed acclaimed movies like Iqbal and Aashaayein started off his journey right here! Winning in Mood Indigo’s movie making competition which is presently known as Director’s Cut, Nagesh Kukunoor announced his talent right at the college stage at Mood Indigo!

Apart from these, competitions at Mood Indigo have served as a platform for Miss India 2008 Parvathy Omanakuttan, actress Hrishita Bhatt, ace director Mani Ratnam and Bollywood singer Nikhil D’Souza among others. With the likes of Shiamak Davar, Terence Lewis, Anupam Kher and Roshan Taneja having mentored and judged participants in the previous editions, this year promises a lot more!
